Solar panels are made up of many solar cells. Solar cells are made of silicon, which are semiconductors. They are constructed with a positive layer and a negative layer, which together create an electric field, packets of energy called photons hit the surface of the solar panels they knock electrons loose from their atoms and conductors are attached to the positive and negative sides of a cell which forms an electrical circuit. When electrons flow through such a circuit, they generate electricity. Solar batteries

Solar batteries are the storage facility of a solar system. The electric energy generated by the solar panels is stored as Dc power in the battery. This enables continuouse use of the solar system at night and during over cast periods. A proper sizing of the battery capacity is reuired to ensure the system is properly ballances. Solar batteries typically come in 2v ,6v and 24v. For smaller capacities, 12v is usually used. For higher capacities 6v or 2v is used. They vry in capacity typically from 100ah, 200ah, 800ah, 1000ah and 1500ah. We stock Ritar, Gaston, surrett , champion, victron, Rolls and scott batteries. Solar batteries are deep cycle with long discharge and charge cycles to ensure longevity. Thry can be flooded or open type or sealed. They can also be gel or lead acid depending on type and usage.

Solar hot water systems

Solar hot water systems use sunlight to heat water using a solar thermal collector and a special collecting tank. There are two types , active using a pump and passive using thermosyphone principle. In large-scale installations, mirrors may concentrate sunlight to heat water in a collector. They varry in size from 100lts, 150lts, 200lts and 300lts. They can be connected in series to give larger capacities. Centralized systems of larger capacities like 2000lts can also be specially made..

Solar charge controllers

Solar charge controllers control charging and discharing of batteries by solar panels to prevent damage to batteries. Without charge controllers, solar panels would continuously charge batteries connected top them to a point were they would explode or get damaged.
